Welcome to the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office Web site. We always attempt to utilize state-of-the-art methods and technology in law enforcement and I am pleased and proud to inform you that we are one of the first Sheriff's Offices in Illinois to have a publicly accessible site on the World Wide Web. Please take a look at who we are and what we do to serve and protect the citizens of Sangamon County.
The Office of Sheriff is provided for within the Illinois Constitution. Sheriffs are elected for four year terms by the citizens of the county in which the Sheriff serves. The Sheriff is considered at the common law to be the chief law enforcement officer of a county. The Sheriff and employees of the Sheriff, deputies, detention officers and civilians, make up the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office. I was elected by the citizens of Sangamon County as their Sheriff in 1994. I am currently serving in my third term as Sangamon County Sheriff.
